- 1). Hoist your car up off the ground using tire jacks or a car lift if you have access to one.
- 2). Locate the skid plate on the bottom of the car. It's a giant sheet of metal stretching over the car's engine.
- 3). Have a friend push up on the plate so it doesn't fall down on top of you during the removal process. As you loosen the nuts, have him push up on the plate to prevent it from falling on top of you.
- 4). Unscrew the three bolts located on the front of the plate, nearest the front of the car. Locate the four rubber nuts at the back of the plate, closer to the rear of the vehicle, and unscrew those.
- 5). Unscrew all the remaining fasteners holding the plate in place. They will be in plain sight, but can vary in location depending on the type of skid plate that is installed.
- 6). Remove the two 13-mm bolts holding the plate to the cross member using an appropriately sized wrench. Each bolt should have a spacer underneath to give the plate clearance.
- 7). Pull the plate downward. If all the screws are properly removed the plate will lower easily.
