- Soaking silver is a polishing method generally used when there is severe tarnish on the silver. Soak only in instances of hard-to-remove tarnish, as regular soaking of silver will harm the patina or sheen.
- In a sink filled with warm water, add one sheet of aluminum foil along with ¼ cup to ½ cup baking soda. Gently place silverware in the sink and let it soak for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove the silver and cleanse using warm water and a mild detergent.
- Although soaking is a form of silver polishing, it is very important to dry the silver thoroughly after polishing away the tarnish. Any prolonged water exposure will cause water spots and speed up the tarnishing process.
