- 1). Wear proper safety attire. Never try to clean mold without wearing an N-95 mask and rubber gloves.
- 2). Throw away any items that can't be cleaned. Fabric-upholstered furniture that has deep (not surface) mold must be discarded.
- 3). Dry each item thoroughly using the electric fans and dehumidifier. Placing items in direct sunlight can help speed this process.
- 4). Spray each item completely with disinfectant.
- 5). Scrub each item with non-phosphate cleaner.
- 6). Again, thoroughly dry the item.
- 7). If, after a few days, an item exhibits new mold growth, re-clean it. If after re-cleaning, the mold returns, either discard it or have it professionally cleaned.
