- For routine cleaning on your stainless steel items, use simple soap and water. Stainless steel cookware can be safely placed in the dishwasher, and your appliances will come clean if you just wipe down the surface with a wet, soapy rag.
- One of the only drawbacks to stainless steel is its tendency to show fingerprints. Most of the time, soap and water can take care of this. If you are having trouble removing the fingerprints through basic cleaning, a tiny bit of olive oil should do the trick. Pour a dab onto a cloth and rub it in until the fingerprints are gone, and then buff dry.
- Heat stains are occasionally a problem with stainless steel appliances that have come in contact with something too hot. It may seem like the stain is there to stay since soap and water are ineffective against it. But it can be removed. Dampen a cloth with club soda and scrub the stain away using a circular motion. It may not come off easily, but a little extra effort and elbow grease will pay off.
