- 1). Clean the hood latch on your Jeep Grand Cherokee. To do this, all you have to do is wipe down the latch with a rag, swab out the inside of the latch assembly and pick out any debris you can see that has lodged itself in the latch assembly.
- 2). Get rid of any rust spots that have developed on your hood's latch before you lubricate the latch. Sand down the rust spots using a piece of sandpaper. You can also use a stiff or a wire brush to brush away the rust.
- 3). Use the WD-40 after the rust has been removed and spray the entire area liberally. This will protect your latch from developing more rust.
- 4). Spray the latch with your lithium grease to lubricate the latch. Be very generous with the lithium grease. Make sure you coat all the metal parts in the latch.
- 5). Test the latch after spraying it to see if it moves without squeaking or sticking. If the latch is still acting up, you need to lubricate it again.
