How to Remove an Oil Pan Bolt

    • 1). Park the vehicle on a level surface and shut the engine off. Set the emergency brake.

    • 2). Jack up the front of the vehicle and place the jack stands behind each front tire on the frame rail of the vehicle.

    • 3). Lower the vehicle onto the jack stands. Make sure that the vehicle is evenly and securely on the jack stands.

    • 4). Locate the oil pan on the bottom of the engine. The oil pan is bolted to the bottom of the engine block. The oil pan will have multiple bolts that are holding the oil pan to the bottom of the engine block.

    • 5). Slide the 3/8-inch drive extension onto the 3/8-inch drive ratchet. Determine the socket size for the oil pan bolts and slide the socket onto the extension. Slide the socket onto the one of the oil pan bolts and turn the bolt counter clockwise to loosen and remove the bolt. Finish unscrewing the bolt from the oil pan with your fingers.
