- 1). Wash the inside of the potato chip containers. Dry the interior. Set the containers aside.
- 2). Measure, mark and cut a slot in the plastic lid of each container. Draw a small rectangle 1/4-inch wide by 1-inch long in the center of each lid. Place the lid on an old magazine. Cut the small rectangle from the lid with a craft knife. The magazine protects the work surface when cutting through the plastic.
- 3). Draw one numeral denomination on each lid to designate which coins are to be inserted. Make the numerals large and decorative.
Optional: Locate a picture of a penny, nickle, dime and quarter on the computer. Enlarge the coins to 2 inches in diameter. Print the coin pictures. Cut the coins out and tape them to the inside of the plastic lids. Cut a slot through the paper coin the same size as the slot in the lid. - 4). Arrange the potato chip cylinders into a straight line or a pyramid shape. Tape the four cylinders together in three locations to hold them in place. Tear an 18-inch piece of tape. Start taping the cylinders 1 inch from the top rim. Wrap the tape completely around the four cylinders. Overlap any excess tape. Repeat the process in the middle and 1 inch from the bottom rim.
- 5). Measure the height of the potato chip cans from just above the bottom rim to just below the top rim. Place the 18- by 24-inch piece of construction paper on a flat work surface so the 24-inch edge is horizontal. Mark the construction paper along both 18-inch sides with the height of the potato chip cans. Connect the marks and cut along the line.
- 6). Center the cut construction paper on the four potato chip cans. Place the top edge of the paper just below the top rim. Tape the side edge to a potato chip can. Wrap the construction paper around the cans. Tape the remaining edge to the surface of the construction paper.
- 7). Decorate the construction paper with stickers, markers, colored pencils and/or crayons.
- 8). Place a slotted lid on each potato chip container.
