- 1). Position a thin and narrow section of mohair on the doll's head close to the neck. The neckline hair is felted first. If your doll will have long hair position one end of the mohair at the neckline and allow the other end to hang down. The length of the piece of mohair is a personal decision.
- 2). Jab the felting needle in and out of the mohair going down through the doll scalp about 20 times. Move the needle across the surface of the hair as you jab. The goal is to have a large area of the hair jabbed several times each. The burrs on the needle make the hair strands insert into the head a slight amount.
- 3). Add another section of mohair to the right or left of the first section. Felt this section with the same jabbing method. Keep the needle going straight in and out. The needle is easily bent and will not work once it is bent.
- 4). Continue adding mohair around the neckline until it is finished.
- 5). Move up the doll head about 1/4-inch. Add another row of mohair. Continue to move up the doll's scalp adding rows of mohair.
- 6). The mohair felted on top of the head will need extra care to make sure it looks natural. Center the mohair on top of the head. Jab the felting needle in to the center of the mohair and form a straight line from the front toward the back. This will create a part line for the doll. If the ends try to stick up, felt them down slightly.
- 7). Place a small amount of mohair on the front of the head near the scalp line for bangs.
