How to Crochet a Bag

    Crochet the Bag

    • 1). Start crocheting with the main color of the bag. Chain two. Begin crocheting the first round in the second chain from the hook. Single crochet six. Round one will end with six single crochets.

    • 2). Insert a piece of scrap yarn through the middle of the sixth crochet in the end of the first round. This marker will help you keep your place as you work your way around the next rounds.

    • 3). Begin the second round in the first single crochet. Increase the length of the round by making two single crochets in each single crochet from the first round. Round two will end with 12 single crochets.

    • 4). Make two single crochets in the first single crochet from round two. This will increase the round. Create a single crochet. Continue alternating between making two single crochets and one single crochet to finish the round. Round three will end with 18 single crochets.

    • 5). Continue increasing rounds 4 through 10 by repeating Step 4 for each round. Increase each single crochet in the single crochets by one for each round. For example, each round will start with two single crochets in the first single crochet, but the next crochets will increase. Round four will have two, round five will have three, and round six will have four. Round four will end with 24 single crochets and each consecutive round will end with an additional six single crochets.

    • 6). Make a single crochet in each of the 60 single crochets on the tenth round. Repeat this process 20 times to complete a total of 30 rows.

    • 7). Tie off the yarn at the last stitch. Cut the yarn, leaving a short tail. Weave the tail into the stitches to hide it.

    Crochet the Strap

    • 1). Start crocheting with the contrasting color for the strap of the bag. Chain four. Begin crocheting the first row in the second chain from the hook. Single crochet three.

    • 2). Crochet one chain. Turn your work to crochet in the opposite direction. Single crochet three. Repeat this process 108 times to complete a total of 110 rows.

    • 3). Tie off the yarn at the last stitch. Cut the yarn, leaving a short tail. Weave the tail into the stitches to hide it.

    Attach the Strap

    • 1). Lay the bag down on a flat surface and push it down so it lays flat.

    • 2). Lay one end of the strap across the front of the bag. The end of the strap will start toward the bottom left of the bag and run diagonally across to the top right. The other end of the strap will attach to the other side of the bag.

    • 3). Use the large needle and contrasting color yarn to sew the strap to the side of the bag, securing one end in place. Tie off and cut the yarn.

    • 4). Turn the bag over and push it down so it lays flat. Lay the other end of the strap across the front of the bag, positioning the strap so it sits exactly as on the other side.

    • 5). Use the large needle and contrasting color yarn to sew the strap to the side of the bag, securing the loose end in place. Tie off and cut the yarn.
