- 1). Fill a dish pan half full of warm to hot water and add in 2 tbsp. of oil soap. Swish the solution for 30 seconds to mix the oil soap with the water.
- 2). Place 1 oz. of wool roving into the soapy water to create a thick strip of wool. Roll the strip back and forth with your hands for 15 minutes, keeping the wool under the soapy water. This felts the wool into a tight wool cord that is 1/4 inch thick and 12 inches long.
- 3). Rinse the cord in warm water to remove any remaining soap. Repeat this process two more times to create a total of three wet felted wool cords. Lay the cords onto a towel to dry for 30 minutes.
- 4). Secure the three felted wool cords together at one end using a metal clamp. Lay the cord on the right side across the center cord, making it the new center cord. Lay the cord on the left side across the center cord, making it the new center cord. Continue braiding the entire length of the felted wool cording using this method.
- 5). Grasp together the loose ends of the braid and poke a coarse felting needle repeatedly into the wool at the end of the braid for 5 minutes. The felting needle teases and dry felts together the wool using tiny barbs located at the end of the needle. This secures the end of the braid together.
- 6). Remove the metal clamp and grasp together the strands on the other end of the braid. Poke the felting needle into the wool at this end of the braid for 5 minutes to felt together the wool. Use the felted wool braid in your craft project.
