How to Clean Products With Hydrochloric Acid

    • 1). Put on your eye protection, protective clothing and gloves. Fill your bucket with enough water for an 80% water to 20% acid ratio. Prepare your work space in a well ventilated area. Fill a second bucket with water and mix in baking soda; the baking soda/water mixture will act as a neutralizer for the acid.

    • 2). Slowly add the hydrochloric acid to the water. When mixing the acid, always add the acid to the water and never the water to the acid. Adding water to hydrochloric acid causes a rapid heating of the water which can cause an acidic bubble to erupt from the top of the water.

    • 3). Use your brush to apply the hydrochloric acid/water mixture to the product you are attempting to clean. Continue cleaning your product until it's cleaned to your satisfaction. When finished, dip your product into the neutralizer mixture (if possible).

    • 4). Place any remaining acid/water mixture into a container for future use. Dip your brush and gloves into the neutralizer before removing.
