- 1). Fold your t-shirt in half diagonally, from shoulder to hem. Make sure that only the front of the shirt is in the fold and that the back of the shirt is hanging down out of the way. Lay the shirt down on a table and flatten out any wrinkles.
- 2). Draw the outline of half of the guitar, from neck to base, along the fold you made, using a washable marker. Also draw half of the circle that will be the hole in the center of the guitar.
- 3). Thread your needle, and sew along the half circle you just drew, making sure to pierce through both layers of cloth. Use big stitches about 1/4 inch long. Leave about 4 inches of string hanging on each end of the circle. Sew the outline of the guitar in the same way, leaving 4 inches at the top and base of the guitar.
- 4). Pull on the threads at each end of the center half circle, bunching the cloth up tightly. Wrap the ends of the string around the stitches. Repeat this step with the guitar outline, pulling tightly and making sure the fabric is nicely bunched. Wrap the excess string tightly. Using your hands, bunch up the remainder of the fabric and wrap it with string, allowing the guitar and center circle areas to protrude at the top. The shirt will now be in the shape of a long roll.
- 5). Mix the dyes according to the manufacturer's instructions, and pour each color into a separate squirt bottle. Squirt the lightest color dye into the body area of the guitar, avoiding the center circle. Squirt the second color into the body of the guitar, avoiding the center circle. Squirt the lightest remaining color into the center circle, and on the rest of the shirt. Finally, squirt the last color into the center of the shirt and the rest of the shirt as well. Wrap the dyed shirt in plastic and let it sit overnight.
- 6). Remove the shirt from the plastic after 24 hours, and rinse it under cold water. Remove the stitching and continue to rinse until the water runs clear. Dry the shirt in the dryer or on the line.
