How to Remove Oxidation From Gelcoat

    • 1). Wet a piece of 2000-grit sandpaper, and the area of your boat you are treating, with fresh water. Sand the area with the wet sandpaper, using circular motions, until the chalky finish has been removed. You should be left with dull but clean-appearing fiberglass.

    • 2). Apply some cleaner wax to a clean, dry cloth. Polish the surface until the finish has returned to a glossy, high-shine appearance. You may need to reapply cleaner wax several times to achieve the desired effect.

    • 3). Wipe down the area with a clean, dry cotton towel. The area should now show no signs of oxidation.

    • 4). Move on to the next part of the gelcoat you are treating.
