How to Change a Toyota Tercel 1996 Oil Pump

    • 1). Enter your Tercel and engage the parking brake. Move the car jack underneath the vehicle. Raise the car off the ground. For extra support, place jack stands along with the car jack.

    • 2). Move your drain pan so that it is directly underneath the oil pan. Pull the drain plug from the bottom of the oil pan and drain the oil in to the drain pan.

    • 3). Remove the upper crossmember near the oil pan with the adjustable wrench. Pull the crossmemeber away from the vehicle to gain access to the oil pan. Remove the 17 bolts which fix the oil pan in place. Take note of which bolts are removed for each specific place as you will have to reinstall them in the correct way when it comes to reattaching the oil pan. Lift the oil pan from the vehicle.

    • 4). Remove the mounting bolts attached to the oil pump and lift it from the vehicle. Clean the surfaces of the new gasket and attach it to the new oil pump. Fix the oil pump in place with the mounting bolts. Reattach the oil pan and the upper crossmember by installing the mounting bolts to fix them in place.

    • 5). Lower the Toyota Tercel off the car jack. Open up the hood. Unscrew the cap from the engine and place oil back in to the engine.
