- 1). Inspect your tires visibly first. After looking at one side of the tires, move the car and turn the tires in the opposite direction to inspect the other sides of the tires during this routine check for defects.
- 2). Look for material that's visible through the tread or sidewall. Keep an eye out for tread separation, which happens when the steel in the belted tires pokes through the rubber.
- 3). Stick a penny in the tread to make sure it's the correct depth. If you can see Lincoln's head when you stick the penny between the treads, then you have a defect and should return the tire.
- 4). Use tire pressure gauge to accurately check the tire pressure. The correct pressure for a Mazda6 is 33psi.
- 5). Check the valve stems on your tires for cracks. Look around the edge of each valve stem to make sure it's in intact.
