- 1). Place a metal contour clip barrette, in any color you like, on top of a piece of felt with the top facing down. Trace the shape of the clip onto the felt using a fabric pen. Draw the shape of the barrette a second time, making the second one 1/4 inch larger than the first, encircling the first drawing. Cut the shape along the larger line to create the top of the clip cover.
- 2). Trace the cutout felt piece onto a second piece of felt of the same color as the first. Cut the second shape out. Cut 1/4-inch of felt from the second piece to accommodate the bottom arm of the clip.
- 3). Place the two pieces of felt together with the traced lines facing down. Sew along the traced line using a sewing machine to create a pocket for the clip. Choose thread that matches the color felt used.
- 4). Cut away the excess felt leaving a 1/8-inch seam. Discard the cutoff felt.
- 5). Open the clip and insert it into the felt pocket, leaving the bottom arm outside of the pocket. Apply hot glue along the top back of the clip and press it to the felt to secure it.
- 6). Attach decorations to the top of the felt clip. For example, hot glue buttons along the length or a piece of patterned ribbon. Alternatively, create a flower or a butterfly out of felt. Hot glue the shape to the top edge of the felt-covered clip.
