- 1). Clean the surface of the object that will receive the waterslide decal. Use common cleaning materials. If the surface has been painted, as is often the case with models, avoid cleaners that can damage the paint.
- 2). Use scissors or a hobby knife to cut out the waterslide decal. Cut as closely to the actual sticker as possible.
- 3). Fill a shallow dish with lukewarm water. The dish must be large enough to hold the decal; larger decals require larger dishes.
- 4). Submerge the decal in water for ten to fifteen seconds. Remove the decal with a pair of tweezers and place it on a piece of newspaper to remove excess water.
- 5). Wait 25 to 30 seconds for the excess water to drain. Gently push the decal to see if it moves; if it slides away, it is ready. If it does not slide away, wait another 30 seconds. Dip the decal back in the water if the decal does not slide away from the paper after a minute.
- 6). Grab the decal gently by the corner and position it on the surface. Press down. Be careful not to jerk your hand or move the decal sharply as it can rip. Gently pull the paper away from the decal and allow it to dry for at least 10 to 15 minutes.
