- 1). Research the skeleton using photos, existing models, books, magazines or the Internet. Enlarge the image to the scale you want. Use the image of the dinosaur as your sculpting template.
- 2). Accumulate vertebrae, wishbones and the breast bone from the backbone of chicken. Assemble the chicken bones to match the drawing of the dinosaur's skeleton. Include the skull, backbone, shoulder blade, upper arm bones, forearm bones, wrist bones, hand bones, ribs, hip bones, thigh bone, leg bones, ankle bones and foot bones.
- 3). Replicate the bones with wires as the skeleton's armature. Cut and bend each wire to achieve the desired height and shape of each individual bone.
- 4). Form thin pieces of bendable clay. Wrap the clay around each wire. Build from the pelvis out. Sculpt the desired skeleton bone leaving the wire on the edges uncovered. Fasten the uncovered wire edges to the other wires to form a connected skeleton structure.
- 5). Trace the vertebral column onto a paper. Cut it out as a template for sculpting so that the spaces between each vertebra are even. Harden the paper spine with glue.
- 6). Apply epoxy clay to the hardened paper template. Mold using a sculpting tool and power rotary tool to the shape of the vertebrae.
- 7). After the clay hardens, set the structure on a stand. Check for balance in the structure. Correct unnatural leaning by balancing the thickness of the clay on each side. Cover any open wires with clay.
