How to Improve Disk Data Transfer Rate

    • 1). Delete unnecessary files and programs. Drag and drop unnecessary files into the recycle bin, right click the bin and choose "Empty recycle bin. Click "Start," "Control Panel," "Programs and Features," select a program and click "Uninstall" or "Remove" to delete the program.

    • 2). Run Disk Cleanup. Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools," "Disk Cleanup," specify the drive to clean, check the boxes next to the types of files you want to delete from the list (temporary Internet files, temporary files, etc.) and click "OK." Click "Yes" when prompted.

    • 3). Defragment the hard drive. Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools," "Disk Defragmenter" and click the "Defragment Disk" button. Defragmenting can take a few hours.

    • 4). Turn off disk compression. Click "Start," "Computer," right click on your hard drive, choose "Properties," uncheck the box called "Compress this device to save disk space" and click "Apply."
