There are many people who like to compare different dog breeds and one of these comparisons is rottweiler vs pitbull.
First of all let´s see a little bit of the history of both breeds: Rottweiler: Rottweilers are believed to be brought to Germany by the Roman emigration during the first century A.
D.
There are also theories that the rottweiler ancestors were mixed with some other breeds during the emigration process.
These breeds include the Bernese Mountain Dog.
Rottweilers were always known to be protective dogs and in the past have also been used for their herding abilities.
Pitbull: Most people agree that pitbulls have originally been bred for combat even though not all of them were used for this sad purpose.
Before dog fighting was a popular sport, and before laws started to try and put an end to the practice in this country around 1875, bulldogs were used for bear baiting and bull baiting.
Both events are despicable examples of animal cruelty and of man's misuse of pitbull terriers.
However when pitbulls first came to this country in the early 1800's, they were used as farm dogs, not fighting dogs.
They guarded the frontier homes of early pioneers and proved to make loyal and gentle companions for the entire family.
Now let´s take a look at the size of each: Rottweiler: Weight: Dogs 95-130 pounds (43-59 kg) Bitches 85-115 pounds (38-52 kg) Pitbull (We are considering the American Pitbull Terrier) Weight: Dogs: 35-65 pounds (16-29 kg) Bitches: 30-50 pounds (14-23 kg) In conclusion, if you are looking for a guard dog then the Rottweiler would be a better choice because pitbulls are know to be (surprise) too human friendly.
However the American Pitbull Terrier has been known to excell at whatever he is trained to do, so it´s a very very versatile dog.
