We so love our dogs, they are ideal companions that would give and receive love unconditionally.
A dog will be at your side when you are happy and when you are sad, would even silently bear your cantankerous moods.
Dogs on the other hand are fortunate to have a responsible and loving human family.
A family that will not think twice to spend top dollar to provide for the dogs basic needs.
The dog would share the home, the couch and at times even the bed of the master.
The dog may be the breed known to have no doggie smell, the dog may be regularly groomed but dogs are dogs.
And dogs have the propensity to dig and roll in things with obnoxious smells if given the chance.
A dog that has rolled on something with despicable smell or one that had dug dead animals will carry the odor inside the house.
Take note of the dogs fur.
The fur may be decorated with dried feces and some other smelly things.
Give particular attention to the anal area.
You may need to trim the hair in this part of the dogs body.
It is not advisable to bathe the dog very often as it will remove the natural oils that waterproof the coat.
However, if you have to live with the dog, a bath would be imperative.
Use a mild shampoo and warm water to bathe the dog.
Some odors though can not be removed even if you use different kinds of shampoos.
In this case adding a dash of baking soda may do the trick.
The bad odor of the pet can be due to a medical reason.
The pet may be suffering from diabetes or from kidney disease that can cause canine halitosis (bad breath).
Infected gums and dental diseases can produce a stinking odor.
This case is one for the vet who will prescribe the right medication.
The dogs foul odor can be due to an impacted anal gland or an infected ear.
A dog' odor can also be caused by flatulence although this unwanted gas will be gone after a while.
If the cause of the dogs odor is infected ear and impacted anal gland, no amount of bathing will remove the foul odor of the dog.
The impacted anal gland has to be expressed and the ear infection needs to be treated as both will be extremely painful and uncomfortable for the dog.
