- Use cardboard tubes or canisters and ice cream sticks to complete this craft. Cut a 2-inch wide, 2- or 3-inch diameter section from a cardboard tube or canister, then cut it in half to form two half circles, one for each barrette you are creating. Color or paint the half circles and add embellishments such as glitter, sequins or fake jewels if desired. Paint or color ice cream sticks and make 1/2 to 3/4 slits on either end of the cardboard pieces for sliding the sticks in.
- Create the tulle part of the holder by wrapping a large amount of tulle around two of your fingers. Slip your fingers out of the tulle mass and secure by tying a separate piece of tulle around the loop you have created. Cut the loops with a pair of scissors to create a tulle pom pom. Then sew the pom pom to a basic black or brown coated ponytail holder to complete the project.
- That pile of plain scrunchies taking up room in your bathroom cabinets can be remade into festive Saint Patrick's Day scrunchies. Sew shamrock buttons on white and green scrunchies and place them about 1 inch apart. Tie small bows out of gold ribbon and glue them to the shamrocks and make hanging ribbon accents by folding 12-inch strands of green ribbon and tying them at their center. Thread four green pony beads onto this ribbon and tie it off so they will not slip off the ribbon. This can be repeated with gold ribbon and yellow beads. Sew the center knots of the ribbons onto the scrunchies with shamrocks sewed over them to avoid visible knots.
- Reuse colorful old buttons to make this craft. Use six buttons altogether to create matching ponytail holders. Use the largest buttons as the base then glue medium and small buttons on top of them to create a tiered effect. Use several loops of thread to attach the bottom portion of the largest buttons to coated elastic ponytail holders. Use matching buttons to make matching sets or a variety of buttons to create an assortment of button ponytail holders.
