Ideas for Making Beaded Bracelets

Beaded bracelet designs can be as simple as stringing beads on elastic or as elaborate as adding beaded fringe around a bracelet band. Your beading skills need not be advanced to make beaded bracelets with style and elegance. Select faceted crystal beads, hand-painted wooden beads, tiny seed beads or any other kind of bead that you like to create beaded bracelets that coordinate with your wardrobe.

    Beaded Fringe Bracelet

    • Make a beaded fringe bracelet with a seed bead band and fringe made from 4mm and 6mm crystal beads. Cut a length of beading wire to fit around your wrist, plus 1 inch for adding the clasp. Wrap one end of the wire around the clasp loop and crimp a bead onto both strands of wire close to the clasp. Thread 10mm seed beads over the length of the wire. Finish the band by crimping a bead over the wire strand wrapped around the remaining section of clasp.

To add the fringe, thread a beading needle with waxed thread. Insert the thread through one of the seed beads, pulling it taut to about 3 inches from the end. Alternate the 4mm and 6mm crystal beads over the strand for the desired length of the fringe. After adding the last bead on the fringe, pass the needle back through the next to last bead that you added. Continue to pass the needle back through the alternating beads, exiting the 4mm or 6mm bead at the top of the fringe. Insert the needle through the next seed bead on the bracelet band. Continue to make strands of beaded fringe all around the bracelet band.

    Stretchy Beaded Bracelet

    • Use elastic beading cord to make a simple stretchy bracelet. Cut a strand of elastic beading cord that's 4 inches longer than the desired length of the bracelet. Clip an alligator clip 2 inches from one end of the cord so the beads will not slide off. Select any size beads that you like and string them onto the cord. Knot the ends together with a double overhand knot after adding all of the beads. Thread the loose ends back through the beads in the bracelet. Cover the knot with jeweler's glue.

    Right-Angle Weave Crystal Bracelet

    • A right-angle weave is a simple beading technique you can use to make crystal beaded bracelets. Begin with a 3-foot strand of beading wire. Thread three 4mm crystal beads to the center of the wire. Hold both ends of wire in your hands. Add another 4mm bead to the left wire. Thread the right wire through the last bead added so that the wire exits in the opposite direction from the first wire. Pull both wires taut to create a diamond-shaped circle of beads. Add one bead to the left wire and one bead to the right wire. Add a third bead to the left wire. Pass the right wire through the last bead you added, in the opposite direction. Pull both wires taut. Continue to add one bead to each wire, and then cross both wires through a bead to create the desired length of the bracelet. Add a clasp to the beads on either end of the bracelet strand with beading thread or beading wire.
