- 1). Build the posts and fencing for the dog run first. Most dog runs use 2 by 4 pressure treated wood to create four posts in the ground. Lay another four 2 by 4 pieces of wood horizontally across the posts to finish the basic frame of the dog run. Screw or nail the wooden pieces into the posts.
- 2). Measure the length and width dimensions of your dog run. Purchase a corrugated roofing material to the width and length you measured. Find corrugated roofing materials for sheds and dog houses at home improvement stores. If you build a larger dog run and want a space with open air, purchase only half of the corrugated roofing material necessary to cover the area.
- 3). Hoist the corrugated material on top of your dog run and balance it on the top of the posts. Corrugated roofing has a wavy texture with high and low grooves. You want the low grooves to sit on the posts.
- 4). Drill heavy duty screws down through the lower groove into the posts to hold the corrugated material in place. Allow the corrugated material to hang over the outside edge of the run so rain doesn't drain into the run itself.
