Frustrations With Your ADD Child Does it seem like your ADD or Attention Deficit Disorder child rarely listens to you? If so, it is because your child can block out what you are saying to him or her.
Is your ADD child very unorganized and forgetful? Change Listening Behaviors You can start by focusing on changing your behaviors.
First of all, when you say you are going to punish your child be sure to follow through.
For example in the heat of the moment you say, "Now we are not going to the parade!" Do not change your mind later when things have calmed down.
You may be sad you said it, but since you did you have to follow through.
Be careful what you say when you are going to punish your ADD child.
The second item to change is when you tell your child to do something make sure he/she follows through.
Stay on top of the situation.
If the child is used to only listening to you when you scream at him/her you need to undo that method of listening.
Otherwise, your child will continue to only listen when you are out of control.
The third thing to change is to warn the child what will be the consequence of the particular situation.
An example would be that the ADD child gets his/her homework done.
(You most likely will have to help your child so he/she understands the directions.
If not, at least look over the papers and note any corrections needed to be made.
Be sure to teach your child the correct steps to get the answer on his homework.
Why Spanking Will Not Work By spanking your child you are not teaching the child what the correct way to do the task at hand is.
You will not stop the behaviors if you do not teach by communicating to your child the correct way of handling things.
Also, you are teaching your child to solve problems by violence.
You do not want to pass this tradition down to each generation.
Summary By taking the time to effectively communicate with your child, he or she will learn how to discipline themselves.
