How to Make a Lava Lamp for 4th Graders

    • 1). Fill the soda bottle three fourths of the way full with vegetable oil.

    • 2). Fill the rest of the bottle with water.

    • 3). Add 10 drops of a dark food coloring to the bottle.

    • 4). Break two antacid tablets into pieces.

    • 5). Add the pieces one at a time to see the lava effect.

    • 6). Top off the bottle with vegetable oil when all of the antacid has been used, and screw on the top.

    • 7). Allow the lava to settle, then tip the bottle back and forth to see the waves that are created when water and oil are combined.
