- Check out the events calendar of the Fire Historical and Cultural Arts Collaborative (thisisfire.com). It offers events all week long from poetry nights to songwriting and musical theater. Call ahead and ensure the event is appropriate for all audiences. You can also take a group to the West Michigan Glass Arts Center (wmglass.org) for a weekday activity that can include glassblowing, lampworking, sandblasting, bead making and fusing. You can also tour the center's gallery and see other glass artwork. Farmers Alley Theater (farmersalleytheater.com) has discounted shows on Thursday nights. The theater performs musicals and plays. Check out its season and do a little research to determine whether any given show is appropriate for Christian singles. Other theaters include the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre, the New Vic Theatre, the Augusta Barn Theatre, the Kalamazoo College Players, Western Michigan University and Epic Theatre.
- The Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo (wingsstadium.com) is home to a minor league hockey team. During the week you can go to hockey games, roller derby games or even participate in open curling. You can also head over to the local Western Michigan University where collegiate games take place whenever school is in session. The Kalamazoo Kings, a minor league baseball team, plays at Stryker Stadium.
- Kalamazoo has three public golf courses: Milham Park Golf Club, Eastern Hills Golf Club and Red Arrow Golf Club. Get together a foursome from your church and pick a weekday tee time. Head over to the Kalamazoo Nature Center (naturecenter.org) to walk the trails, go birdwatching or visit its co-op sustainable farm. You can also visit the bird sanctuary at the W.K. Kellogg Biological Station (kbs.msu.edu) in Kalamazoo, and Michigan State University has a dairy farm that is open to the public.
- If you're out and about during the day, stop by the Taste of Heaven (drizzled.org) for chocolate-drizzled popcorn and other flavors. This store started out as part of a challenge to raise money for God. It is now owned by Kalamazoo Youth for Christ and helps raise money for ministry projects. Head to Erbelli's (erbellis.com) for gourmet pizza that has won reader choice awards from local newspapers as the best pizza in the city. In addition to traditional favorites, you can get gluten-free pizza and vegetarian pizza.
