Fact: We can"t run away from internet tricksters! And the thing is, I found some very useful online safety tips on Afroromance dating site online safety page that have actually helped me spot some of the members who seem to be dishonest and fishy. Lemme share a few:
1.If a member initiates contact on the site then within no time, the person starts insisting on you two continuing the conversation using other avenues not provided for by Afroromance dating site (say Yahoo or MSN messenger) then you need to be cautious. That is one of the tricks internet cons use so that their activities don"t get monitored or traced by the site administrators. Don"t be in a rush to divulge your personal information. And don"t let anyone harass or threaten you to get it out of you. REPORT THEM!
2.If a member you have just gotten in contact with starts asking for large sums of money claiming they have some sort of family emergency; or they want to buy a plane ticket so they can come to visit you, DON"T FALL FOR THIS OLD TRICK! Who the hell asks for help from someone they have never met in person? This has opportunist written all over it. If money is going to come in between the two if you, then you are better off knowing now. Don"t send any money. A sincere individual should understand. A fishy one will flee!
3.Most internet cons claim to be visiting a foreign country (esp. Nigeria and Russia) and claim to have encountered some emergency (like their money being stolen) and have no one to turn to hence ask for monetary help. Why the F*** can"t the person call their families and friends or employers back home? Plus if you are in a foreign country working, shouldn"t an employer be the one to help ot?
Afroromance dating site urges us all to watch out and I am so glad that they have involved us in controlling online insecurity. I once reported a member I suspected and almost immediately his profile was pulled down from the site after investigation. YES!!! It works.
