How to Tell Your USB Hub Type

    • 1). Go to the bottom left side of your screen and click "Start."

    • 2). Open the device manager. If you have Windows 7, open the control panel and click "Hardware and Sound." Proceed to the device manager under "Devices and Printers." If you have Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, type "devmgmt.msc"in the search text box. When the dialogue box appears, click "Continue" to open the device manager. According to Microsoft, if you have an earlier version of Windows, click "Run." Type "devmgmt.msc" into the Run dialogue box.

    • 3). Find "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" from the alphabetical list of devices installed on your computer. Expand the view by clicking the triangular arrow icon before the title.

    • 4). Look for host controllers containing the word "Enhanced" in their heading. If you find one, then your computer has USB 2.0 hubs. If not, then your computer has USB 1.1 hubs.
