How to Make Pierce Points in Wood

    • 1). Measure the piece of wood with the tape measure. Mark the location to make the pierce point by using the pencil.

    • 2). Determine the size of center punch to use, such as 1/8 of an inch. The size will depend on the size of the drill bit if you are drilling a hole in the wood.

    • 3). Align the tip of the center punch on the pencil mark that you made in the wood.

    • 4). Strike the top of the center punch with the hammer to create a pierce point. Repeat this step if the point in the wood is too shallow.

    • 5). Repeat this process to make additional pierce points in multiple pieces of wood.
