How Do I Replace a Compaq Evo n610c Motherboard?

    • 1). Power off the Compaq Evo n610c laptop. Unplug all devices from the computer, including USB connected devices and the power cable.

    • 2). Close the laptop and turn it over so that you have easy access to the bottom of the computer. Pull out the battery, CD drive, and docking connector. All of these components have latches that have to be slid to "open" and then the devices will pop-out of their slots. Once the device is unlatched, all you have to do is pull them off and away from the computer.

    • 3). Unscrew the hard drive's security screw with a small Phillips screwdriver. Pull the hard drive out and away from the laptop.

    • 4). Pop open the lid that houses the Mini PCI. This lid does not have a screw holding it in place, so just push it in and up from the laptop. Remove the Mini PCI from inside the computer.

    • 5). Unscrew all the screws located below the devices that were just removed from the Compaq Evo n610c with the screwdriver.

    • 6). Flip the computer back to its normal position and open the screen up to access the keyboard. Pop off the panel located above the keyboard. To pop off the panel, insert a small, standard screwdriver between the panel and computer case--then push the screwdriver in and up.

    • 7). Unscrew the screws below the panel with the Phillips screwdriver and remove the keyboard from the laptop.

    • 8). Unscrew all the screws underneath the laptop's keyboard and remove the laptop case to access the motherboard.

    • 9). Unscrew all the screws underneath the laptop case and remove the motherboard from within the Compaq Evo n610c.

Insert the new motherboard in the exact same position of the old motherboard. Screw the new motherboard in place, then replace the laptop case, keyboard, upper panel, CD drive, Mini PCI, hard drive, battery, and docking connector.
