How to Search the Desktop in Vista

    • 1). Click the "Start" menu button at the bottom-left corner of your screen.

    • 2). Type a search query into the "Start Search" box at the bottom of the Start menu.

    • 3). Press "Enter." A Windows Explorer appears with search results.

    • 4). Click the "Advanced Search" option at the bottom of the list of search results if you want to narrow the search query. Click the "Location" box at the top of the window to select a specific location such as the Desktop folder. Click the "Include Non-Indexed, Hidden and System Files" checkbox if you want to search non-indexed locations.

    • 5). Click the "Search" button after narrowing the search query to perform the search.
