How to Fill a Radiator with Fluid

    • 1). Pour the antifreeze into the gallon jug until it is halfway full. Fill up both the jug and the antifreeze container with cool tap water. You now have two gallons of coolant at a 50/50 ratio.

    • 2). Open the radiator by twisting the radiator cap off. The radiator cap is at the top of the radiator and is directly above the upper radiator hose.

    • 3). Fill the radiator to the top with the mixed coolant.

    • 4). Start the vehicle and allow it to warm up.

    • 5). Observe as the coolant level drops when the vehicle is warmed up. This is due to the thermostat opening and allowing the coolant to enter the engine.

    • 6). Top off the coolant every time it drops. Eventually the coolant will stop dropping off.

    • 7). Add no more coolant when the level rests just below the filler neck.

    • 8). Replace the radiator cap.
