How to Unzip an Eclipse File

    • 1). Download Eclipse for your operating system (see Resources).

    • 2). Download a file compression utility. Windows XP and later have a free compression utility already, so don't install another one. WinRAR and 7-Zip will support files for Linux and Mac. Double-click the compression utility file you downloaded and follow the wizard steps to install.

    • 3). Right-click the Eclipse file and choose to unzip the file. Depending on the utility you're using, it may say "Unzip with 7-Zip" or "Unzip with WinZip." The Windows utility will say "Extract All."
An alternative that works with Windows and WinRAR is to double-click the zipped file. This will automatically launch the compression utility program and ask if you want to unzip the file.

    • 4). Choose the location you want the extracted or unzipped files to be stored. Press "Browse" to select a location. The current folder is the default location. Files will not overwrite each other during decompression.

    • 5). Find the new folder with the unzipped Eclipse files that appears in the location you chose in Step 4. Once the decompression is complete, exit your chosen program.
