- 1). Open Windows Explorer by clicking the "Start" button, opening the "All Programs," and clicking "Accessories," then "Windows Explorer." Windows Explorer typically opens with "My Documents" selected.
- 2). Select "Details" under the "View" menu. The file view panel (the right side of the window) lists the files and folders in the current directory ("My Documents") with labeled columns for the name, size, and other details.
- 3). Select "Choose Details..." under the "View" menu. A list of all the possible column headers is displayed. The currently visible columns have check marks in the check boxes next to the column title.
- 4). Click the check boxes to show or hide the columns you want to see in the Details view.
- 5). Use the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons to change the order of the currently selected column. Click "OK" when you have finished customizing the columns. The columns you chose are now visible in the current file view.
- 6). Select "Folder Options..." from the Tools menu in Windows Explorer. The Folder Options window opens.
- 7). Click the "View" tab.
- 8). Click the "Apply to All Folders" button in the "Folder views" section. A window opens asking you to confirm this action. Click the "Yes" button.
- 9). Click the "OK" button to finish. All the folders in Windows Explorer are now displayed showing details showing the columns you selected.
