An ATI MMC Uninstall Causes a Reboot of the System in Windows XP

    Uninstall the Software

    • 1). Turn on your computer and repeatedly press the "F8" key on your keyboard until you see the "Advanced Boot Options" menu.

    • 2). Use the "Arrow" keys on your keyboard to select "Windows Safe Mode" and press the "Enter" key. This will load Windows without the ATI Catalyst.

    • 3). Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously on your keyboard. This will open a "Run" box.

    • 4). Type "Appwiz.cpl" in the "Run" box and click the "OK" button. This will open a new window on your screen containing a list of your programs.

    • 5). Click the "Uninstall" button next to "ATI Catalyst." Click "Yes" on the confirmation dialog.

    Uninstall the Drivers

    • 1). Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously. Type "Devmgmnt.msc" in the "Run" box and click the "OK" button. This will load the Windows Device Manager in a new window.

    • 2). Double-click "Display Adapters." This will expand your ATI card.

    • 3). Right-click your ATI card from the list and click "Uninstall." Click "Yes" on the "Are you sure?" dialog. Close the "Device Manager."

    • 4). Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously. Type "C:\Windows\Temp" in the "Run" box and then click the "OK" button. This will open a new window on your screen containing temporary files.

    • 5). Press the "Ctrl" and "A" keys simultaneously. This will highlight all the files in the folder. Press the "Delete" key on your keyboard. This will remove all the temporary files on your computer. Close the window and restart your computer.
