- 1). Compare the price of each car in which you are interested. Consider the price with or without options, and don't forget to factor in the cost of tags and dealer fees.
- 2). Compare gas mileage. What is the size of the gas tank? How much gas does each car use during highway and city driving? Information is available at FuelEconomy.gov.
- 3). Look at comfort and convenience. Compare features such as air conditioning, heated seats, reading lights and vanity mirrors. Find out if the cars offer convenience options like cruise control.
- 4). Compare safety features. Find out if each car has anti-lock brakes, an emergency trunk release, stability control and traction control. Many auto insurance companies offer discounts on premiums for cars that have alarm systems and other anti-theft devices.
- 5). Find out what each warranty covers. Most car warranties cover years and/or miles. A three-year, 36,000-mile warranty will cover your car for three years or until it accumulates 36,000 miles. Does the warranty provide roadside assistance, car replacement or other benefits while your car is being repaired?
