How to Recycle Rubbish Bins

    • 1). Look at the bottom of the rubbish bins for the SPI identification number. The Society of the Plastics Industry maintains an identification number for various plastics to make them easier to sort and recycle. In many cases for a rubbish bin you'll see the number four, five, six, or seven encased in a small triangle made out of arrows.

    • 2). Put the rubbish bin inside your regular recycling bin and put it at the curb if the number one or two appears on the bottom -- this is an easily recyclable plastic. If necessary, compress or break the bin so it fits inside the recycling bin and the recycling collectors will know to take it.

    • 3). Call your local recycling center if you don't have curbside pickup, or if the numbers three through seven appear on the bottom of the bins. Arrange either a special pickup from your house, or take the bins to the recycling center. If they can't recycle those plastics, ask for a recommendation to a local facility that will.
