- 1). In order to plan a successful rummage sale, you should begin the process weeks, or even months, ahead of time. Go through every room in your home, one by one. Pay special attention to cleaning out the drawers and closets. Set aside a pile of the things you intend on selling at your rummage sale.
- 2). The next day, take that pile of things you set aside to sell and go through it, piece by piece. Mark each item with a sticker that has the price you intend to sell it for written on it.
- 3). When you are done pricing one room's worth of items, separate the items by category, such as kitchen stuff, furniture, clothes, etc. Store the pre-priced, categorized items in a safe place, like your basement, garage or spare room.
- 4). To continue on your path to plan a successful rummage sale, keep going through each room in your home until you get through all of them. After each room, follow the above steps. When you have finished cleaning out your house, and pricing & categorizing your rummage sale items, you can then pick any weekend to have your rummage sale.
- 5). Be sure to advertise for a week before your rummage sale. Getting the word out about your rummage sale is key to its success. Put up signs at the end of your street, fliers at the local grocery store or an ad in the paper. Many localities also offer free internet listings for rummage sales, so be sure to add yours to the list.
- 6). When the rummage sale day comes, all you will have to do is set out your pre-priced, categorized items in your yard or garage, and you can wait for people come. As you watch the money roll in, you will be happy to see that your efforts to organize and plan a successful rummage sale have paid off.
