How to Clean Closet Storage

    • 1). Remove items when possible and thoroughly vacuum the entire closet space. This area collects dust and loose buildup with ease.

    • 2). Dust shelves and walls as needed with a dry cleaning rag, or moisten the rag with a few drops of water and wipe away sticky residue.

    • 3). Sprinkle baking soda over carpeting and shelves if the closet has an odor. Let the baking soda sit overnight with the closet door closed, and vacuum the closet the next day to remove all of the buildup. Alternately, place a few pieces of activated charcoal into an old pair of socks and sit in the closet to absorb odor. This product can be found at pet supply stores with cleaning and deodorizing products.

    • 4). Use a fan to get rid of of musty smells. Keep the closet door open, and point a fan into the closet space. Let the fan run for about three hours to dry out any moisture and air out the closet space.
