.You can set ShURLy to create short links for your content automatically. You can also create links manually by browsing to
example.com/shurly
. Again, you can make short links that point to anywhere on the Internet.By default, only an administrator can create new short URLs, but if you want to take on bit.ly, you can open your URL shortener to the masses by granting the
Create short URLs
permission to authenticated or even anonymous users.I've found ShURLy to be an excellent, simple tool. Normally, I would be a bit nervous to use a module that has so few installs, but the original developer hails from Lullabot, so I trust he knows what he's doing.
If you must use a third-party tool, don't hurry off just yet. Check out the Shorten module, which integrates with several popular shortening services. I haven't reviewed this module yet (and it also has very few installs), but it may be better than switching elsewhere every time you want a short URL. If you try it, let me know what you think!
