Quality Time

Many of us spend so much time working, thinking about work, thinking about issues, getting involved in organizations and other outside interests, that we spend very little time, really considering our own personal needs for some relaxing, "down" time.
While different people define "quality time" in a variety of ways, I strongly believe that it means what we do that makes us feel better.
That feeling better may involve doing something humanitarian to some people, while others would not consider that their personal time at all.
Many golfing enthusiasts that are often referred to as "weekend warriors," or "duffers," use their time on the course as their personal Nirvana.
Others go to the gym to relax, while some people consider the gym time anything but relaxation.
Others find things such as a massage, yoga, meditation, etc.
to be their quality time.
Some people, especially those that wish to be considered "politically correct" and nice, will openly tell you that the time they spend with their family is their quality time, but others will look at the many studies that indicate that the statistically highest stress levels for a large number of people is during holidays and family gatherings.
Many will argue about what the word "quality" means when it concerns time, but, for me, I feel that each person's "quality time" can be vastly different.
The only thing I believe necessary to make the time referred to "quality" in nature is that it permits one to step away from his regular routine, to try to ensure that one does not get into a rut.
When I give some of my presentations on attitude adjustment or motivation thinking or self help, I often state that if we write out the word "r-o-u-t-i-n-e," and each of us take ourselves out of that routine, we are taking one person out of it, which is the only one we really have any control over.
Thus take the word "routine" and erase the letters that spell out "one" and the "I" and we end up with a "rut.
" It is important for each of us to find something that helps us avoid that often devastating and debilitating rut that comes from sticking only to a preset routine! Quality time may not involve anything involved as long as it is relaxing and fulfilling to the individual.
That means that for some people, watching a movie or television, listening peacefully to music, or reading a book for enjoyment, may be just the answer to arrive at our own personal quality time!
