The Kernel of "Coaching" and "Rapport"

People need to know that what they are doing is important.
They want to know that they are making a difference in this world and making it a better place to live in.
People just want to make a difference.
Everyone likes to see the results of their efforts.
A sense of success and accomplishment gives them a way to measure progress.
People thrive on challenge.
They stretch, develop new skills and discover their inner resources by doing new things.
An environment that provides respect and recognition will also increase the best resources and efforts of each person.
People also want a say so in what happens to them and around them.
They want a part in the decision making.
What kind of environment supports positive coaching? One that sets up conditions in which people can do their best and get good vibes from what they are accomplishing.
Some of the basic elements are a supportive climate, a coaching mentality among the leaders, constructive feedback .
Ask yourself what is needed for a coach to maintain this kind of environment? Openness to change, more accountability, teamwork and other high performance behaviors.
Coaches are great motivators.
Many have come to understand through various studies the complexity of human motivation.
The common factor seems to be that most persons want to have feedback on how they are progressing.
They need to know they are making a difference and that it is recognized through their behavior.
"I praise loudly, I blame softly.
" -Catherine the second, Empress of Russia A supportive coach who challenges the team to expand its resources, increase its creativity and enables it to reach higher levels of human development and well-being is the key to success.
There is a distinction between coaching and feedback.
Coaching is the personal manner in which data is offered.
Feedback is the data or information given.
Productive and healthy relationships require appropriate, positive and informative feedback.
This means that the coach recognizes what each team member does well and offers feedback about how they can continue to improve.
The balance between these two aspects tends to increase the team members' sense of fulfillment and expands the choices and possibilities within each ones grasp.
In order to set up this environment and to constructively exercise these skills the coach needs to establish rapport .
This requires that the coach use all of his senses to be actively present and focused on each team member in order to build a rapport in an effective manner.
It also requires setting up categories into which the coach stores data regarding each members words, body language and behavior.
Once the data is collected and a rapport has been established the coach waits for the "right timing" to offer some ideas and thoughts regarding the overall improvement and development of each individual.
The coach must fine tune his active listening for cues and signals in order to respond to each appropriately.
Using and honing these skills produces confident, creative, and fulfilled team members.
