How to Make a Custom Recovery CD

    • 1). Download the ISO disk-image file of the recovery CD that you wish to customize, if you do not have one (see "Resources" below).

    • 2). Extract the files and folders that are contained on the recovery CD to a new folder on your desktop. Unidisker and 7-Zip (see "Resources" below) are both capable of extracting the files from a disk image file.

    • 3). Add the files or folders to the extracted files folder. Be sure that you know exactly where you are adding the custom firmware. If it is in the wrong place, the recovery CD may not work properly.

    • 4). Recreate an ISO disk image from the custom files folder. MagicISO, IMGBurn and ISO Recorder (see "Resources" below) can create disk images from files and folders. Name the new custom recovery ISO something different than what the original ISO is called (so the original is not overwritten) and save the disk image to your desktop.

    • 5). Insert a blank CD. Right-click the custom recovery ISO disk image file and select "Burn Disc Image." Select your CD burner and click "Burn." You now have a custom recovery CD.
