- 1). Turn the bucket upside-down on a stable surface.
- 2). Use the drill to place between 15 and 30 evenly spaced holes in the bottom of the bucket. Large amounts of liquid are produced during the digestion process. The holes allow the liquid to drain out of the digester during compost formation.
- 3). Find a suitable location for the digester in the yard. It should be located away from any play or high-traffic areas.
- 4). Use a shovel to dig a hole deep enough to bury half of the bucket. Place the bucket in the hole and fill any loose spaces with dirt.
- 5). Fill the bucket with organic waste and snap the lid firmly in place.
