- 1). Paint the canvas item with a layer of fabric paint, if desired. Allow it to dry thoroughly.
- 2). Center a stencil in the desired location. Holding it flat against the canvas, use masking tape to secure it in place. Tape the corners and edges of the stencil and if the stencil is large or intricate, tape down a portion of the interior so that you paint one area of the stencil at a time.
- 3). Paint in the stencil form with stencil spray, being sure to follow the directions included on the label. Take care not to over-spray an area or the paint could run under the stencil.
- 4). Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.
- 5). Paint another color or spray stencil over the first color, if desired. Spray very lightly to give the stencil a dappled, shadowed or highlighted look.
- 6). Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.
- 7). Add any additional desired details with a paintbrush and fabric paint. Allow the paint to dry before using your canvas item.
