What is the File Extension .pnf?

    Image File

    • When associated as an image file, it is a bitmap file for Portable Network Graphics. This type of file is an image format that employs lossless data compression and was designed to replace the GIF format.

    Precompiled Setup Information File

    • A PNF file is created by Windows Operating Systems and is matched to an information file. PNF files contain information regarding the content of the original INF file, the name of the original file and various other file attributes. PNF files are accessed on Setup and allows Windows to process files more efficiently.

    Opening File

    • Unless you know for certain that it is an image file, it is recommended that you do not open .pnf files as they are associated with many programs and can cause difficulties if opened then saved incorrectly.

    Opening As Image File

    • If you are certain that the file is an image file, you can open it with any photo editing program, including Photoshop, Paint and others.

    Deleting Files

    • Do not remove any PNF files without researching it first. Since PNF files are part of the Windows Operating System, removing one could cause errors to pop up that could be hard to repair.
