- 1). Disconnect the main power cable from the back of the Dell PC. This large cable connects directly to the power supply at the rear of the unit.
- 2). Unscrew the screws holding the main side door on the unit. The main door is the one opposite the motherboard. On most models, it is on the left side when facing the unit. Depending on the type of Dell, the screws may be on the rear of the unit or on the underside. Some newer models may not require a screwdriver, but offer a latch or wingnut that fulfills the same purpose.
- 3). Remove the main side door and set it aside.
- 4). Locate the PCI card slots on the motherboard. Three or more PCI card slots should appear next to a larger PCI Express or AGP video card slot.
- 5). Insert your PCI sound card into any empty PCI card slot on the Dell PC. Make sure the notch in the card aligns with the notch in the card slot. These notches exist to prevent incorrect installation of the card.
- 6). Replace the door and screw it back into position securely.
- 7). Reattach the power cable and turn on the Dell PC.
