Finding a Cure For Panic Attacks is Not All About Medication!

Anybody suffering from panic attacks is bound to want to get treatment for his/her condition and be asking "is there a cure for panic attacks?" This is because the displeasure and nuisance that this problem causes to normal functioning is immense.
Since panic attacks can occur anytime and usually strike without warning, a person who suffers from them is likely to be perpetually anxious about when the next episode/attack would strike.
However, being anxious won't do much good as per the old saying, 'worrying is like a rocking chair..
..
it gives you something to do, but it won't get you anywhere'.
Hence, finding a cure for panic attacks becomes directly synonymous to getting your life back on track.
Many a cure for panic attacks come in numerous and varied forms and their exact nature can vary on a case to case basis.
While for some people medication alone might do the trick, for the majority of panic and anxiety attack sufferers either behavioral therapy is needed or a combination of behavioral therapy and medication is prescribed.
For those who opt for the medication route, there are generally two options.
The first of these choices is anti-depressants which need to be taken for several weeks and are thus more pertinent for people whose panic attacks are so frequent that they have been diagnosed with a panic disorder.
Meanwhile, the second option is that of Benzodiazepines.
Benzodiazepines are an extremely fast acting cure for panic attacks such that they provide instant relief and can thus be used to counter the symptoms of a panic attack as and when they surface.
It should be noted though that panic disorder/attack medication needs to be used with caution.
This is because the drugs for panic and anxiety disorders are known to have severe withdrawal symptoms and can also be highly addictive in nature.
Additionally, these medications have also become infamous for causing various side effects which range from nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness, to aggression and even hallucinations.
Moreover, these drugs are not the most ideal cure for panic attacks since they do not bring about permanent improvements and instead just offer a short-term quick-fix solution.
It is for this latter reason that the popularity and credibility of behavioral therapy has increased greatly in recent times.
Behavioral therapy, although spread out over numerous sessions, aims to bring about permanent changes so that the issue of panic attacks is cured at its roots.
Among the most favored behavioral therapy options is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy which helps alter a person's thinking patterns under the premise that, as a result the person's behavior can be changed.
If Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy doesn't work, then Exposure Therapy might be tried.
Exposure Therapy uses numerous sessions to slowly and gradually expose a person to his/her fears in a controlled and safe environment such that the person realizes that whatever is triggering his/her fears is actually not as threatening as he/she perceives.
Therapy then can be argued to be among the best cures for panic attacks.
That said, real improvements will only show if you yourself make a conscious effort to helping yourself.
Hence, along with whatever treatment your doctor prescribes, it is imperative that you alter your lifestyle in such a way that your daily routine has as little stress as possible.
You would be only doing yourself good if you avoid alcohol, nicotine and caffeine as all three products are infamous for increasing anxiety levels.
Alternatively, you could start making a habit of having lots of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis.
Also it would be great idea to get into an exercise routine into your usual day so that your body and your muscles are given a breather.
Similarly, you could also learn a few relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga or Tai Chi for example, which would allow you to unclog your mind as and when you please.
