- 1). Send a text message from the carrier's website. For example, Verizon's website allows you to send text messages to Verizon customers from a "Send a Text Message" page. In order to use this feature, you'll need to know which phone service your recipient subscribes to.
- 2). Send a text message through an Instant Messenger program such as Yahoo! Messenger and AOL Messenger. Many IM programs allow you to send texts to cellphones using Short Message Service, or SMS. Each IM application differs in the process of sending messages, but in general, the IM service will show you the option on its chat screen. In order for this option to work, the end user must be a friend or connection of yours on the service and he must have listed his phone number in his IM profile.
- 3). Send a text message through one of many websites that offer a text message option. For example, Online Text Message, Send a Text Online and Txt2Day all allow you to send text messages to cell phones.
